About B20

The Business 20 (B20) is a forum through which the private sector produces policy recommendations for the annual meeting of the Group of 20 (G20) leaders. The B20 brings together business leaders from across G20 member countries to reflect the key role of the private sector as the main driver of strong, sustainable and balanced growth.

The B20 was first convened as a business summit during the Canadian G20 Presidency in June 2010 and continued to play an important role during the succeeding Korean, French, Mexican and Russian host years.

As President of the G20 in 2014, Australia has established a B20. The B20 Australia Leadership Group includes 30 Australian business leaders representing a range of industries. It is chaired by Richard Goyder AO, Managing Director and CEO of Wesfarmers.

B20 Australia will lead business engagement and coordinate the communication of international business priorities to the G20 during Australia's presidency.

The B20, in providing a channel for business to support the G20 agenda, also has a very important role to play in helping the G20 deliver meaningful outcomes.

B20 Australia:

  • Wants the G20 to focus on achievable outcomes; B20 Australia will narrow its focus to four key areas where it can make an impact
  • Will build on the excellent work delivered by previous B20 summits
  • Is committed to working with the international business community to develop a set of clear, actionable priorities that will drive growth and create jobs

The approach to organising B20 activities has varied between different host years and continues to evolve. In each case however, B20 activities have culminated in a major event involving a significant number of business leaders from around the world.

Since 2010, the B20 has formed a number of working subgroups or taskforces, chaired by prominent business leaders, which examine particular topics.

In 2014, B20 Australia will focus on driving impact in four areas: financing growth, human capital, investment & infrastructure and trade. The taskforces will build on the work delivered by previous B20 summits and will work with the Russian B20 to ensure continuity of purpose.
